2005 - 2006 Student Exchange
Exchanging for Education
In July 2005, 15 young Zambians will visit Somerset for three weeks,
with the British group visiting Zambia in July 2006.
The Zambians will be hosted by Ansford School and will undertake
a busy schedule of group projects, school activities, social events
and visits. Previous exchanges have looked at topics such as health
education / AIDS and Sustainable Development. The current Exchange
theme focuses on the Right to an Education (enshrined within the
UN Convention on the Rights of the Child), and the Exchange group
will work on projects in primary schools in both countries.

The main objective of the Exchange is to extend the awareness and
experience that young people in Somerset and Mufulira have of the
world outside their community, and to develop values, skills and
understanding that will enable them to fulfil their roles as local
and global citizens.
This exchange is not a holiday. Working together, and sharing each
others' lives, the students and teachers from both countries learn
about their own and another culture, and take this into the wider
community in both countries.
